Project Petra Inspo

I made a commitment to myself recently to start sharing more about my works, long before they’re published. I need to share my excitement and ideas with you guys instead of keeping them locked away for some big reveal years down the line. So with that in mind, I’d like to tell you guys about Project Petra.

Project Petra is my current work in progress. I started it back in the end of March. It is a gender bent Peter Pan retelling and its been killing me to keep that a secret, especially after 2 of my other author friends announced they were doing Peter Pan retellings as well. That news set me back for a while, but then I knew I had to persevere because my story won’t be the same and I feel like it needs to be told. The premise of Project Petra is below:

What if Peter Pan was a girl?

And what if she was Captain Hook’s adopted daughter?

The idea for this project came to me slowly. I’ve known I wanted to do a Peter Pan retelling for a long time, but I wanted to do it right. I’d been compiling aesthetic photos on Pinterest with pirates and ships and Disney Peter Pan quotes and then I came across this picture:

And I knew then that this was my Peter, well that this was my Petra, rather. It all unfolded from there. I don’t want to give too much of the plot away yet, but I’ll give you some hilights of what to expect from it.

  • Wendy is a character

  • There are faeries, though not ones like Tinkerbell

  • There are mermaids, though they’re more sea monsters than sea maidens

  • Captain Hook is not the bad guy and he actually goes by Captain Pan

  • I incorporate the Fairy Changeling folktale, if any of you are familiar

  • Pixie dust does not come from the great tree

And that’s all I’m going to say for now. #sorrynotsorry lol. I do have a working blurb and a working title, but I’m going to hold onto those for a little while longer. I do plan on sharing more aesthetics and quotes as I go along and perhaps little insights into my writing process when I can. I hope you enjoyed this little reveal and I hope that some of you will be excited to read the book one day!

My next blog post will be more for writers and I’ll be talking about how I keep my stories and various other projects organized. Let me know in the comments what you think of Project Petra so far and as always, keep writing.
